Ingredients

  • 130 g boneless white fish (rohu, basa or cod)
  • 140 g pumpkin
  • 60 g mixed carrot and green beans
  • spoon of curd
  • Fresh water for cooking

Portion & storage

These amounts make roughly one day of food for a ~10 kg adult dog, split across the day. As a rough guide feed 2–3% of body weight daily: a 3 kg dog ≈ 60–90 g, a 20 kg dog ≈ 300–450 g, a 30 kg dog ≈ 450–650 g. Puppies, working, pregnant or underweight dogs need more; seniors and low-activity dogs need less. Introduce any new recipe over 5–7 days, mixed into the current food. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight box and use within 2 days; serve at room temperature.

Method

  1. 1

Steam 140 g peeled pumpkin for 12 minutes and mash — excellent for digestion.

  2. 2

Steam the white fish for 8–10 minutes until it flakes, checking carefully for bones.

  3. 3

Steam 60 g total of chopped carrot and green beans for 6–9 minutes until just tender.

  4. 4

Let everything cool to room temperature, then fold the white fish, pumpkin and vegetables together.

  5. 5

Once the bowl has cooled, stir in 1 tbsp plain curd.

  6. 6

Serve at room temperature. Store any extra in the fridge and use within 2 days.

These are recipe ideas, not a complete daily diet plan. Every dog has different nutritional needs based on age, size, weight, breed and overall health. Use these to add variety and inspiration — introduce anything new slowly over 5–7 days, and talk to your veterinarian before making major changes, especially for puppies, seniors, pregnant dogs, or dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Never feed onion, garlic, chives, leek, grapes, raisins, chocolate, caffeine, xylitol, macadamia nuts, or cooked bones.
