Ingredients

  • 90 g sprouted moong
  • 90 g brown rice (dry weight)
  • 60 g mixed carrot and spinach
  • pumpkin seeds
  • Fresh water for cooking

Portion & storage

These amounts make roughly one day of food for a ~10 kg adult dog, split across the day. As a rough guide feed 2–3% of body weight daily: a 3 kg dog ≈ 60–90 g, a 20 kg dog ≈ 300–450 g, a 30 kg dog ≈ 450–650 g. Puppies, working, pregnant or underweight dogs need more; seniors and low-activity dogs need less. Introduce any new recipe over 5–7 days, mixed into the current food. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight box and use within 2 days; serve at room temperature.

Method

  1. 1

Rinse 90 g brown rice and simmer in 250 ml water for about 25 minutes until soft; set aside to cool.

  2. 2

Steam the sprouted moong for 6–7 minutes until tender — never feed sprouts raw.

  3. 3

Steam 60 g total of chopped carrot for 6–9 minutes until just tender. Wilt a small handful of chopped spinach in the last minute.

  4. 4

Let everything cool to room temperature, then fold the sprouted moong, brown rice and vegetables together.

  5. 5

Sprinkle ½ tsp ground pumpkin seeds.

  6. 6

Serve at room temperature. Store any extra in the fridge and use within 2 days.

These are recipe ideas, not a complete daily diet plan. Every dog has different nutritional needs based on age, size, weight, breed and overall health. Use these to add variety and inspiration — introduce anything new slowly over 5–7 days, and talk to your veterinarian before making major changes, especially for puppies, seniors, pregnant dogs, or dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Never feed onion, garlic, chives, leek, grapes, raisins, chocolate, caffeine, xylitol, macadamia nuts, or cooked bones.
