Ingredients

  • 120 g boneless salmon
  • 70 g quinoa (dry weight)
  • 60 g mixed broccoli florets and carrot
  • omega-3 drizzle
  • Fresh water for cooking

Portion & storage

These amounts make roughly one day of food for a ~10 kg adult dog, split across the day. As a rough guide feed 2–3% of body weight daily: a 3 kg dog ≈ 60–90 g, a 20 kg dog ≈ 300–450 g, a 30 kg dog ≈ 450–650 g. Puppies, working, pregnant or underweight dogs need more; seniors and low-activity dogs need less. Introduce any new recipe over 5–7 days, mixed into the current food. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight box and use within 2 days; serve at room temperature.

Method

  1. 1

Rinse 70 g quinoa well and simmer in 200 ml water for 15 minutes until the germ uncurls, then fluff.

  2. 2

Bake the salmon at 180°C for 12–15 minutes until opaque, then flake and remove any bones. Always cooked, never raw.

  3. 3

Steam 60 g total of chopped broccoli florets and carrot for 6–9 minutes until just tender.

  4. 4

Let everything cool to room temperature, then fold the salmon, quinoa and vegetables together.

  5. 5

Drizzle over ¼ tsp fish oil (or ½ tsp ground flaxseed) for skin and coat.

  6. 6

Serve at room temperature. Store any extra in the fridge and use within 2 days.

These are recipe ideas, not a complete daily diet plan. Every dog has different nutritional needs based on age, size, weight, breed and overall health. Use these to add variety and inspiration — introduce anything new slowly over 5–7 days, and talk to your veterinarian before making major changes, especially for puppies, seniors, pregnant dogs, or dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Never feed onion, garlic, chives, leek, grapes, raisins, chocolate, caffeine, xylitol, macadamia nuts, or cooked bones.
