DINNER
Lamb Mince & Pearl Barley Hash
Lamb Mince with pearl barley and gentle vegetables — a hearty dinner.
Dinner· 34 min total· 5 ingredients
Ingredients
- 100 g lean lamb mince
- 80 g pearl barley (dry weight)
- 60 g mixed carrot and zucchini
- omega-3 drizzle
- Fresh water for cooking
Portion & storage
These amounts make roughly one day of food for a ~10 kg adult dog, split across the day. As a rough guide feed 2–3% of body weight daily: a 3 kg dog ≈ 60–90 g, a 20 kg dog ≈ 300–450 g, a 30 kg dog ≈ 450–650 g. Puppies, working, pregnant or underweight dogs need more; seniors and low-activity dogs need less. Introduce any new recipe over 5–7 days, mixed into the current food. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight box and use within 2 days; serve at room temperature.
Method
- 1
Simmer 80 g pearl barley in 260 ml water for about 30 minutes until tender.
- 2
Cook the lamb mince in a dry pan for 8–10 minutes until browned, then drain the excess fat.
- 3
Steam 60 g total of chopped carrot and zucchini for 6–9 minutes until just tender.
- 4
Let everything cool to room temperature, then fold the lamb mince, pearl barley and vegetables together.
- 5
Drizzle over ¼ tsp fish oil (or ½ tsp ground flaxseed) for skin and coat.
- 6
Serve at room temperature. Store any extra in the fridge and use within 2 days.

These are recipe ideas, not a complete daily diet plan. Every dog has different nutritional needs based on age, size, weight, breed and overall health. Use these to add variety and inspiration — introduce anything new slowly over 5–7 days, and talk to your veterinarian before making major changes, especially for puppies, seniors, pregnant dogs, or dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Never feed onion, garlic, chives, leek, grapes, raisins, chocolate, caffeine, xylitol, macadamia nuts, or cooked bones.
